When dealing with horses, we must acknowledge that each horse
has its own individual personality, therefore there is no
"one-size-fits-all" method for training. Each
horse is given the freedom to express his/her feelings about
their situation with the trainer. Since the horse speaks
in sign language, and humans speak in words, it is the job of
the trainer to establish proper communication between horse and
human. Communication is the crux of any relationship, therefore
we emphasize the importance of clear, concise, and effective
communication between horse and rider.

In general, there are two distinct types of
approaches to training:
The Authoritarian Approach and The Authoritative Approach.
By definition, authoritarian is characterized by unquestioning
obedience to authority, as that of a dictator, rather than
individual freedom of judgment and action. Conversely,
authoritarian is based on competent authority coming from one
who is an expert.
We do not set ourselves up as dictators,
but rather firm and gentle leaders. Horses, by design are
in need of a confident herd leader. Training is set up to
provide the horse with a competent authoritative leader to set
the standards for communication and cooperation.
We make happy horses.
Each horse is evaluated on temperament, natural physical
ability, and mental aptitude for its intended use.

Riding Lessons
At Frosty Acres, our main focus is on natural
horsemanship. Understanding the horse's behavior and
thought process is essential for obtaining a safe and
successful relationship with your horse. Lessons are
customized for the individual student in order to offer a
complete and holistic education on all aspects of horsemanship,
not just riding.
We do not offer standardized riding lessons on push button
school horses. The philosophy of our riding lessons are
based on French Classical Dressage, which studies the dynamics
of the horse's natural movements and incorporates "feel and
sensitivity" in both horse and rider to achieve a working
unity between both partners.
Do we offer English or Western? As we like to say,
"The horse doesn't care what saddle we use. Good
riding is good riding." Both western and English
saddles are available.
